Choose the right device check for the layer that is failing.

• Hardware: power, cables, shutters, ports, batteries, and physical damage
• Operating system: drivers, privacy permissions, default devices, and firmware
• Browser: site permissions, secure-context requirements, selected inputs, and Web API support
• Application: the meeting or recording app’s own device selection, processing, and organization policy

If a camera fails in a meeting app, open a camera-only browser test. If it also fails there, inspect browser and operating-system permissions. If it passes, return to the meeting app and check its selected camera and account policy.

Zoom’s test meeting, Google Meet’s green room, and Microsoft Teams’ test call exercise their own media paths. They are not interchangeable with a neutral browser test; they answer a later, more specific question.

Share capability states, error names, browser versions, and steps to reproduce. Treat camera images, recorded speech, location coordinates, nearby Bluetooth devices, and network identifiers as sensitive data.

• Confirm microphone activity and speaker output
• Check the intended camera and lighting
• Verify screen-sharing permission if presenting
• Close apps that might hold the camera or microphone
• Finish in the destination meeting app’s own preview or test call
